Buniyar, Vishnu temple

Buniyar, Vishnu temple
9th–10th century
Baramula

This temple probably dates to the late ninth century. It was built on a high double-story plinth with two ambulatory passages that can be reached by a double flight of staircases. In front of the temple are the remains of a platform where a column dedicated to Garuda, the mythical bird-man, once stood. The remaining structure provides a good indication of what a fully developed temple complex in ninth–tenth century Kashmir might have looked like.
