Shankaracharya Temple
6th century
Srinagar
This sixth century temple has been heavily restored. Scholars believe it to be the Jyesthesvara temple erected by King Gopaditya (r. 253–328) that was recorded by the Kashmiri historian Kalhana in his twelfth-century chronicle. The temple stands within a walled octagonal terrace and is approached by three flights of steep steps. |
