Male Court Attendant Wearing Official's Headgear and Upturned Shoes
Western Han period, 2nd-1st century B.C.E.
Earthenware

Court attendants are frequently found in tombs of the elite during the Han period (206 B.C.E. - 220 C.E.). The elegance of their attire and their refined features have sometimes led to their mis-identification as females. Figures such as this one would originally have been decorated with pigments applied after the firing.
