The Central Asian nation of Kyrgyzstan remains off the beaten path for most travelers: Just over 1 percent of its GDP is derived from tourism, a figure that places it near the bottom in global rankings. Wedged between China, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and Tajikistan, the Kyrgyzstan is a largely rural, mountainous country where over 90 percent of its land mass is at an elevation of 3,000 feet or above.
